Learn How To Decopatch Now

If you would like to learn how to decopatch, you need to begin by getting the recommended materials, such as decopatch paper, paperpatch glossy glue, a hog bristle brush, aquapro or similar commercial varnish, a cup of water (for brush cleaning), and scissors. Select the item you want to do this to, and then select the decorative paper. Once that is done, all you need is a brush and decopatch glue varnish.

The first thing to do is to cut or tear the Decopatch paper into tiny pieces - approximately the size of a standard postage stamp or perhaps slightly bigger. It would be best if you tear it for this step since torn edges blend together more smoothly than edges cut with scissors. After this, you need to put glossy glue to the area you will be placing the paper. Then place one piece of Decopatch paper on the glued surface, and apply a new coating of paperpatch glue on your paper. Now, it is time to make the surface smooth, working from the center to the edges. Make sure you take away the extra glue. Cover the target object completely with paper and glue.

Each one of the pieces should be overlapping over to the next. For the best results, make sure the overlap is not too much - only enough to cover the edges of the previously glued piece. If possible, use professional varnish on objects for everyday use or where a shiny finish is desired. Placing two or even three coats is important, with an hour to dry between each application. Once fully decorated, leave the project to dry for 15-30 minutes

The paper can also be employed to revamp any old items you may have around the house, such as a chest of drawers, chairs, and mirrors. Among the endless possibilities, you can even use the paper to decorate shoes, handbags, and other items for weddings! Many people have these types of parties - use the paper to decorate items at the party including but not limited to animals, mirrors, photo frames.

A big advantage to a Decopatch party is that guests get to take home their items on the same day! You can instead choose one or more gift bags and take them home to do on a rainy day for an innovative party or family activity.

Once you master how to decopatch, you will find these projects everywhere you turn. Almost anything can be done up in this manner, including old furniture, glass, wood, stone, cardboard. It's that simple, enjoy and have some great fun!

3D Decoupage - Learn How to Make a Decoupage Card

3D Decoupage comes on many levels. If you are a beginner, start with an easy design and build up to more challenging projects. It is possible to create great results early on. There are 3 key skills to master: choosing, cutting and applying. It always saddens me when those who craft look down their noses at those who use Sticky Fixers (sticky pads) to do Decoupage. They think it marks out the 'man' from the 'boys' or the new craft person from the Professional.

Having taught crafts for over 20 years now (and taught Teachers who Teach), I do know what they mean, but; and it IS a big but, I am a believer in starting from where you are at. And when you begin, sticky pads are ideal. But let us get down to basics.

Having said that there are 3 key stills, the sticky pads come unto the application stags. First it is vital to get the design bit right. It means:

- Choosing the right weight of design

- Cutting it carefully

- Separating any paper layers into individual parts

With that done you move onto cutting. Some would say this is the most important stage, but I would disagree. All 3 impact on the other. If you choose an inappropriate design for working on you will get a poor result - no matter how great your scissor skills. Equally, if you are great with the old blades but let down at putting it all together, no matter how accomplished your preparation, your assembly will scupper your final result.

I am a believer in all skills working together. Start with the end in mind. It does not matter when you are kicking off in Decoupage if you use sticky pads, but if you have got great loads of tab visible, you have not mastered the basics. No sign of assembly (glue or pad) should be visible.

It comes down to learning the stages with patience and practice. If you want it, then you will get better. So ignore the 'nay-sayers' who may be ahead of you, because one day you may well overtake them. Go after your 3D Decoupage projects with a passion and you will soon master the essentials.

Learn How to Decoupage Fabric

Many people who do crafting projects often may not think that you can decoupage fabric onto furniture or other items as well as pictures. If you would like to decoupage an item but have a favorite piece of fabric that you want to show off, you can use that fabric in order to make a beautiful project.

Decoupage is a craft that allows you to add pictures to an item or piece of furniture to where it will be a permanent fixture and will not be easily disturbed. This type of craft helps to liven up old furniture or allows a person to display a picture or photograph on something other than in a picture frame.

When you decoupage fabric onto a piece of furniture, you need to make sure that the surface of the furniture is level and clear of the laminate that is usually painted on furniture to protect it. You can do this by sanding it down and making sure that it is clean and dry. This will assure that the glue will help the fabric to adhere to the piece of furniture nicely. Once this is done, you can paint the piece of furniture the color that you want it to be where the fabric will not placed.

You also need to remember that fabric will have a tendency to stretch so you want to make sure that you cut your fabric a little smaller than what the actually area is where you want to put it. Once you have added the decoupage to the fabric, it will be very hard to cut. You want to make sure that your decoupage fabric has no frayed ends as well. Once you have your fabric ready, then you are ready to decoupage it to your piece of furniture.

There are two different ways that you can work with the decoupage fabric. You can either add the glue to the fabric itself, or you can add it to the piece of furniture. Most reviews of this craft from people who have done it before, state that it was much easier for them to add the glue to the furniture surface first because they were more able to move the fabric around in order to make sure it was positioned correctly. Once in the right position, then you can add a good amount of glue to the surface for the sealant.
